Safety Systems:
Strengths: Lowellville has done an excellent job trying to keep up on repairs and improvements around the city. This shows the city’s respect for the safety of its residents. It is also great that the unused medication drop-off unit has been placed in the city. With any luck, this could help to prevent overdoses and will help to keep the water supply clean. Another great resource for the residents of Lowellville is the hunter safety course provided by the Rod and Gun Club. Finally, it is excellent to see that even a small community like Lowellville has an emergency preparedness plan in place.
Weaknesses: While the unused medication drop-off unit is definitely a great idea, it is only effective if the residents are actually using it. It might be utilized more if there was more of an incentive for the individual. Also, the Village of Lowellville’s website is outdated and does not provide nearly as much information as it should for the residents. This could have an effect on the residents’ ability to contact the appropriate person in a time of emergency or if there is a safety issue at hand. The website also lacks crime statistics, which would be good information to have if you are either already a resident or are planning on becoming a resident. Finally, the fact that the Fire Department is strictly volunteer could lead to a lack of important resources.

- Construction and Downtown Improvement Project:
- This summer Lowellville completed many repairs and improvements to the city. Amongst these were repairing damaged streets and installing new side walks, curbs, and storm sewers. The Downtown Improvement project consisted of widening the sidewalks and installing new lighting near the bridge downtown. This project is aimed toward improving walking and biking safety for the residents of Lowellville.
